OPM songwriting took center stage as Pablo of SB19 and Paolo Benjamin of Ben&Ben joined the official launch of Sony Music Publishing Philippines on Feb. 24, 2026 as panelists. Not there to perform, but to speak from experience, the two shared what it really means to write with purpose, honesty, and heart.
A New Home for Filipino Songwriters
The launch marked Sony Music Publishing’s official expansion in the Philippines, with a clear mission to support Filipino songwriters from creation to global reach. The focus is on long-term growth through publishing support, royalty administration, and international collaboration, all rooted in protecting creative voices.
Writing with Instinct and Intention
John Paulo Nase, also known as Pablo of SB19, spoke about trusting instinct as the backbone of songwriting, staying true to the story, and using collaboration to sharpen clarity rather than seek approval. For him, every song needs a purpose that guides creative decisions.
Paolo Benjamin Guico echoed a similar philosophy, describing songwriting as a balance between instinct and collective flow. With Ben&Ben, songs evolve through shared input, sensitivity, and timing. He emphasized humility in the process, making sure decisions serve the song itself rather than personal ego.
A Creator-first Vision for OPM
Sony Music Publishing leaders emphasized that everything starts with the songwriter. From protecting creative work to building systems that allow artists to grow sustainably, the company framed its vision around long-term care rather than short-term gains. SMP International President Guy Henderson shared that even as technology like AI reshapes the industry, Sony Music Publishing’s priority remains clear: creators come first, and their rights must be actively defended as innovation moves forward.
On the local front, SMP General Manager Stephanie Ortiz spoke about creating a support system that goes beyond administration. The Philippine office is officially the ultimate launchpad for Filipino songwriters, nurturing homegrown talent and opening the doors to the global stage.
Lighting Up the Night with Music
The launch also featured performances from DWTA and Mateo, bringing the focus back to the songs themselves. It was a fitting close to a night that celebrated Filipino creativity in all its forms.
The Sony Music Publishing Philippines launch wasn’t just an industry moment. It was a powerful reminder that Filipino songwriters are seen, supported, and ready to be heard worldwide.
